| Research Abstract |
本研究は昆虫を対象として、視覚的に距離を推測する仕組みを調べた。ハンミョウ幼虫の単眼視覚系では、距離に特異的に応答するニューロンを生理学的、形態学的に同定した。さらに, 光学的方法で遠近識別の仕組みを調べ、新しい距離計測の仕組みを提唱した。ハンミョウ成虫の複眼視覚系では、俯角による距離識別の仕組みを提唱し、これを定性的に検証した。カマキリの複眼視覚系では、ニューロン構築を調べ距離特異的応答を記録した。スズメガ科のホシホウジャクでは、解像度が低いとされる重複像眼が距離検出に不可欠な高分解能を獲得する仕組みを形態学的に調べた。
