Research Abstract |
Our previous study showed that opioid receptor activation even after short-lasting spinal cord ischemia in the rat could cause irreversible paraplegia. This study elucidated the relationship between nitric oxide and morhine inducing paraplegia after spinal cord ischemia. While IT morphine alone could induce irreversible paraplegia, the combination between IT morphine and ODQ failed to induce neurological deficit. Our results suggested that nitric oxide-guanylate cyclase-cGMP pathway should be involved in the inducing paraplegia.
