生体流体解析モデルの細胞レベルからの構築的再構成

Research Abstract

2008年度は,藻類やバクテリアなどの微生物や,赤血球や癌細胞などの細胞の力学モデルを構築した.また,繊毛反応などの生理的反応のモデル化も行った.2009年度はこうした数理モデルをベースとし,生物学的反応を含む細胞モデルの大規模シミュレーションを行った.そして,シミュレーションによって細胞の拡散テンソルや溶液のレオロジー特性など,マクロな連続体モデルに必要な物理量を求めることに成功した.現在はこれらの値のデータベース化と,流動下における各テンソル量の数理モデル化を行っている.また,マクロスケールの生理流体解析にも取り組み,小腸内における細菌分布を議論するための腸内フローラシミュレータを開発し,次年度行うマルチスケールシミュレーションの下準備を完了した.
今年度の顕著な成果としては,以下の2つがあげられる.
(1)ボルボックスのダンスの解明
「Dancing Volvox : Hydrodynamic bound states of swimming algae(ボルボックスのダンス:遊泳藻類の流体力学的均衡)」という論文を連名でPhysical Review Letters誌に発表した.この論文では,藻類のVolvoxがワルツやメヌエットなどのダンスを踊る姿を世界で初めて発見したことを報告し,そのメカニズムを流体力学で説明した.掲載誌は物理学の最高峰の雑誌であり,この論文はその表紙を飾った.また,この成果はNatureやScience等の科学誌のみならず,各種メディアのニュースとして取り上げられた.
(2)JRS Interface誌のReview論文
「Suspension biomechanics of swimming microbes」としかう題目で,Journal of the Royal Society Interface誌に単著でReview論文を発表した.Interface誌は生物と物理の境界領域の格式高い雑誌であり,申請者が細胞溶液の流体力学の分野で,世界の第一人者になりつつあることが分かる.
