Research Abstract

This study is focused on the Attic black-figure pottery in the first half of the sixth century B. C., and its development of painting style, vessel shapes, decorative schema and iconography. The "KX painter," an anonymous vase-painter of the Komast Group, is the main subject of this research. Through the detailed examination on his work, the significance of the painter, mutual relationship with other potters and painters around him and some social function of the early Attic black-figure pottery were revealed.
