| Research Abstract |
本研究は、南都とその周辺地域を主なフィールドとして、領主としての寺社と地域社会の関係を、単なる支配・被支配関係ではなく双方向に規定しあう相対化されたものと考えて、地域における人的ネットワークや生産関係の中で、寺社がどのように社会的な機能を果たすか検討することによって、寺社の地域社会における社会経済史的役割とその歴史的意義を考察し、中世における在地社会の社会構成の特質を解明することを目的とする。
あわせて、そうした地域に根ざした中世の寺社の機能が、社会の近世化によってどのような消長を遂げるか、すなわち在地社会と寺社が互いに「自立する」過程を、寺社の組織・経営の変化にも注意しながら跡付けることも試みる。
