Research Abstract

電子間のクーロン反発の影響が大きな物質群では、電子の電荷・スピン・軌道自由度の状態がその物性に強く反映される。本研究では、これらの自由度のうち、電荷密度の異方的な分布を与える軌道自由度の電場応答を調べた。その結果、軌道自由度が秩序化することが知られている複数のマンガン酸化物において、軌道自由度が電場に対し顕著な応答を示すことを見出し、電気抵抗や屈折率といった巨視的な物理量の異方性を電場で制御することに成功した。
