Research Abstract

赤痢菌は腸管上皮細胞に感染し、最終的に感染細胞を含む上皮組織を破壊することによって炎症性下痢を引き起こす。本研究から、赤痢菌は細胞侵入することによって、潜在的にDNAの損傷を引き起こし感染細胞の破壊を昂進する作用を持つ一方、これらの作用を抑制し感染細胞の生存を維持する機構を持つことが示唆された。本成果は赤痢菌の感染メカニズムを理解する上で非常に重要であり、感染制御の基盤的知見となると考えられる。
