Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the first year, we successfully developed an experimental setting for culture experiments with zones making up a gradient of increasingly harsh stress. We used the speed of adaptation as a proxy to measure how much faster polyploids can adapt and specialize to the new environment relative to their closest diploid species. We observed that the fungal strains have diverse speed of adaptation depending on stress types and strains for elucidating complex relationships between them. A preliminary analysis of fungal nucleic acid extraction was also conducted.
