Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During my JSPS Fellowship, I conducted research focusing on understanding phosphorus(P) efficiency mechanism in rice. My experimental material included two rice breeding parents and their crossing population contrasting in root-vigor related traits and P efficiency in low P soils. I carried out quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis to determine the underlying genetic basis of the P-efficient root traits. My analysis identified a QTL on chromosome 4 potentially contributing to elongating root length in low P conditions. I also followed up how these contrasting P efficient rice genotypes responded to when P availability was experimentally reduced. My results revealed that the high P-efficient genotype rapidly responded to low P availability by expressing the P-stress related genes.
