Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The organic synthesis of linker units was completed as described in the proposal. The linkers have been incorporated in metal-organic-framework and covalent organic frameworks as described in the proposal. The MOF structures have been applied for photochemical oxidation of small molecules. The materials are also under investigation for other uses (as photochemical antibacterial agent, etc.). The emphasis of the project has changed from chiral materials to photochemical materials because of the encouraging properties of the compounds made.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
All the general classes of compounds specified in the proposal have been prepared. Because of work done on the compounds, the emphasis of the project changed to focus more on photochemical properties for applications in oxidation reactions and photodynamic areas. From the point-of-view of material preparation, the project has proceeded beyond expectation. Currently, the properties and possible applications of the compounds are being assessed and the work is being prepared for publication (one paper submitted, 2 more in preparation).
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The research plan proceeded and, after preparation of the materials, it has been possible to discover new uses for the compounds. Based on what was found in the project, we are planning further materials based on this project. The Fellow will prepare these before completing the project and the work will be prepared for publications in the near future and in corresponence with the Fellow when he returns to his home country. Collaboration will continue with the fellow after he returns.
