Outline of Final Research Achievements

In the art market & art dealer studies, which is unexplored especially in Japan, we started our studies in the first phase by following the advanced Western study methods and results. Based on the results of the first phase, we have undertaken our original studies, expanding the study field from Europe to the world, including Japan and Asia, and attained the level to publish our study results in scholarly journals, books, and conference papers. Today, studies in global and multiple art markets are rapidly progressing in international scholarship, and it is very significant that Japanese scholars are now getting involved in collaborative research.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

美術作品が市場においてどのように取引きされるか、そのメカニズムについて多くの研究成果を得ることができた。作品の売買、貸借がどのような要因によって促進され、どのようにその価格が決まるかについての知見は、美術作品の世界的伝播、価値、価格形成について、また画商、キュレーターなど美術を動かす人々の役割についての理解を深めてくれた。これらの知見は研究上も重要であるが、美術館の運営や文化政策の立案にとっても有益な客観的指標やデータを提供できる点などにおいても重要であり、今後の文化活動全般の推進にとっても大きな意義をもつものである。
