Outline of Annual Research Achievements

ウラン化合物はスピン軌道結合が大きく、遍歴・局在の中間的な性質を持つ5f電子のために多彩で魅力的な物性が知られている。とくに強磁性超伝導体UGe2, URhGe, UCoGeは強磁性スピンゆらぎによってスピン三重項超伝導が実現しており、磁場誘起(強化)型超伝導を示すなどその特徴は際立っている。本研究の目的は、強磁性量子臨界終点近傍において、これまで理解されてこなかった電子系における対称性の破れを、リフシッツ転移、ネマティック状態、ポメランチュク不安定性をキーワードに、量子振動効果によるフェルミ面観測から明らかにすることである。さらに、スピン三重項超伝導が実現しているこれらの物質で、トポロジカル超伝導というあらたな視点に基づいた超伝導研究を行うことである。
当該年度は昨年度に引き続き新奇重い電子系超伝導体UTe2の研究が大きく進展した。その主な成果は以下のとおりである。1)超伝導が破壊される臨界圧をわずかに超えた圧力で、強磁場をくわえることにより、磁場誘起超伝導を発見した。10T以上で発現する超伝導であり、28Tでも生き残っている。2)圧力下の磁化率、磁化測定を行い、圧力と共に磁化率の異方性が大きく変化すること。臨界圧を超えた磁気秩序相では、反強磁性磁気秩序が起きていることを見出した。3)極低温、低磁場の精密磁化測定により、異常な下部臨界磁場の異方性を示すことを見出した。このほかにもNMR測定や熱膨張測定が行われて多くの成果が得られた。

Reason

UTe2の臨界圧力を超えた圧力で、磁場誘起超伝導が発見されたことは予想外の進展であった。反強磁性磁気秩序相が閉じて、スピン分局した状態で発現する超伝導であり、常圧で[011]方向に磁場を加えた時に現れるHm=40T以上での超伝導とも関連があり、大変興味深い。スピン三重項超伝導が実現し、多数のゆらぎが絡み合って織りなす新奇な量子相の発現である。実験は、国内外の多くの共同研究者とともに行われており、それぞれの強みを生かした実験がなされている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後もUTe2の純良単結晶育成にむけて条件の最適化を図る。これまでに得られた成果は、いずれも純良単結晶が得られたことにより成し遂げらたものである。すでに条件の絞り出しは進みつつあり、超伝導転移温度の上昇、残留状態密度の減少が得られている。これを進めることにより、フェルミ面の観測に成功するものと考えられる。
