| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
初年度にモンゴル中央部ハンガイ山地および英国スコットランドで採取した古生代岩石試料についてチャート中の微化石抽出と砂岩中の砕屑性ジルコン年代を分析した。その結果、両地域の古生代付加体形成年代と遠洋深海チャートの堆積期間の限定が可能となり、従来知られていなかった遠洋域での絶滅記録の認定が可能になるといった新たな成果が得られた。各々、東京大学の大学院生、中野智仁および石坂湧人の修士論文の骨子となった。また中国雲南省の下部カンブリア系から採取した既存試料から、「世界最古の節足動物化石」を発見し、この成果を含む東京大学の大学院生、河野聖那の博士論文がまとめられた。これらの成果は、国内の学会での口頭発表および一部は国際学術誌に論文（Kono et al., 2021ほか23編）として公表された。また古生代末絶滅の前後での遠洋域での環境変化についての国内での野外調査と化学組成／同位体組成分析を行い、絶滅に大きく先行して海洋が還元的に変化したこと、また通説となっている巨大火山活動だけでは、グローバル環境変化と絶滅の原因説明にはならないことを示した。これらの成果も国際学術誌に複数の論文として公表あるいは印刷中である（Maruoka & Isozaki, 2020; Onoue, Isozaki et al.,2021; Saitoh & Isozaki, 2021; Isozaki in pressほか）。その他にも、国内外の既存試料を用いて、先カンブリア時代および中生代末から新生代前半の絶滅に関連する岩石・地層の年代制限を試みる野外調査と試料分析を進めており、それらの成果も一部公表した（Sawada, Sawaki et al., 2021ほか）。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
本年度当初よりの世界的なコロナ・パンデミックの影響で、予定していた海外渡航（野外地質調査および国際学会参加）が不可能となった。そのため新たな野外調査資料の蓄積と岩石試料の採取ができなかった。しかし、主に前年度までに採取した岩石試料について、より詳しい化学分析を進めた。その結果、いくつかの新知見が得られ、それらの成果を国内外の学術誌に公表し（計２９編、うち英文論文は２３編）、国内の学会にオンライン参加して報告した。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
３年次も引き続き主に室内分析を継続する。一方で、コロナ・パンデミックの沈静化の様子を判断して、改めてモンゴル中央部およびカナダ東部ニューファンドランドでの野外調査と試料採取の計画を進める予定である。また国際学術誌への成果公表を続けるが、特に国際会議での口頭発表については、コロナ禍の沈静化の経過を鑑みて判断する予定である。
