Outline of Annual Research Achievements

結合共振器を用いた全く新たなモードロックの手法を発明した.モードロックレーザパルスを生成するためには,可飽和吸収効果が必要とされる.従来,可飽和吸収を実装するために,カーボンナノチューブやグラフェンなどを共振器に結合させることが行われてきた.この手法は従来のファイバーレーザのモードロックには有効であるものの,モード体積が小さく利得が大きくはない微小光共振器レーザにおいては,損失が大きくなりすぎてしまい,モードロックが得られにくいという問題を生じさせていた.そこで,我々は,利得と損失を二つの別々の共振器に分離して,この二つの共振器を結合させることを発案した.
利得と損失を有する二つの共振器を結合させると,その系には空間時間反転(PT)対称性の崩れが生じる.系のパラメータを変化させると,PT対称性の崩れが生じるポイントが発現し,そのポイントが特異点(EP)である.我々の系はEPを有する系となっており,EP付近において,システムの損失が大きく変化することを利用すると,人工的に効果的な可飽和吸収動作を実現できることを見出した.実際には共振器内の僅かな光強度の変化の結果生じる光カー効果の変化を感じて,損失共振器が利得共振器から,光パルスの裾のみ強く結合する条件となるために,可飽和吸収が実現できる.利得と損失を有する共振器を結合し,可飽和吸収に等価な動作を実現し,モードロックを理論的に実証した.
次に,MgF2微小光共振器の超精密加工とその温度及び圧力による動的な制御について研究を進めた.これはマイクロコムを静的なものではなく,動的にパラメータを調整ができるようにする,基本技術といえる.我々は,マイクロコムを生成しながら,その中心波長や繰り返し周波数を変化できることを実証した.波長可変レーザを用いなくともマイクロコムを生成でき,超波長安定したマイクロコム生成につながる技術である.
