本研究は、核酸のトポロジーに着目して、細胞の環境応答性によって変化する核酸トポロジーの変化を検出、定量することにより、遺伝子発現制御やがん化との関連を解析しようとするものである。また、人工分子による核酸のトポロジー制御による遺伝子発現制御を目指している、独創性の高い研究提案である。
核酸構造の物理化学的解析で実績のある研究者による研究提案で、「細胞内での核酸のトポロジー変化が、遺伝子発現を制御している」という仮説の証明により、新しい遺伝子制御の概念が確立されることが期待される。
