Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study was a qualitative and quantitative exploratory investigation and analysis of Japanese reading and writing education at universities in Japan and abroad in a variety of native language and cultural settings. We investigated the following factors: 1) faculty and student beliefs about reading and writing education, 2) various environmental aspects related to surrounding learning and teaching, such as entrance examination systems and graduation thesis systems, and 3) transformations in students’ learning processes. As a result, it became clear that various factors such as syllabi, students' and professors' beliefs about reading and writing education, and the entrance examination and thesis systems in each region affect reading and writing education, as well as the process of long-term learning and changes in students. These findings have implications for university education and research instruction across disciplines.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は、日本・海外の多様な母語・母文化的背景における大学の日本語読解・ライティング教育について、教員や学習者のビリーフ、教育の環境、および学習プロセスについて、各々質的・量的に多様なアプローチを用いて検討した。その結果、各地域の入試や卒業論文の制度に加え、シラバスや教員のビリーフ等、種々の要因が読解・ライティン教育に影響を及ぼしていることがわかった。これらの知見は、留学によるモビリティや学習・教育環境の多様化が進む現在、地域を超えて教員が読解・ライティング教育の課題を共有し、その改善に向けた多面的な検討を行うために有用で、かつ教育連携の重要性を示唆した点に学術的・社会的意義があると言える。
