令和３年度は３回の研究会を実施した。報告者は次のとおりである。第１回（7月26日）神田さやこ“Bengal's Salt Imports by Country/Region in the 19th and Early 20th Centuries”; 杉原“Red Sea, Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea in the Indian Ocean Trade, c.1890-1938”; 第2回（10月30日）小林篤史“Breakdown of British India's Trade into Presidencies' Trade, 1800-1874”; 鈴木「植民地期マダガスカルに関する統計的研究」; 西村「19世紀末から20世紀初頭における英領インドの銀貨輸出が果たした役割」; 杉原 “Bay of Bengal and Southeast Asia in Straits Settlements Trade, c.1890-1938”; 第3回（2022年1月12日）小川道大“Development of the Bombay City after the Opening of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway (1850s-1910s)”; 杉原 “Indian Ocean Trade, 1890-1938”.
令和４年度は、成果刊行物の準備を進め、総合地球環境学研究所の実践プログラム１および令和4年度開始の杉原科学研究補助金・基盤研究（B）との共催で、「Environmental and Historical Foundations of Indian Ocean Trade」と題する国際研究集会を実施した（2023年2月22-23日）。
