Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this project, I sought to clarify the views on language held by the leading postwar sociological theorists (Schutz, Parsons, Bourdieu, Habermas, Luhmann, etc.) and the social context in which they were formed. Broadly speaking, it became clear that normative theorists such as Parsons and Habermas took it for granted that people share the same language as a crucial medium, while Schutz, Bourdieu, and Luhmann, who theoretically kept their distance from national society, tended to relativize the theoretical position of language. Further research will continue to confirm this finding. During the total four years of this project (FY 2019-2022), I have published the results, including those on related topics, in four peer-reviewed papers in English (three of them in prominent international journals), two invited lectures at foreign universities, and one presentation at an international conference (also peer-reviewed).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
