Outline of Final Research Achievements

Analysing over 30 families’ interview data, we revealed that the Nepali coming to Japan has three main routes, which differentiates their family’s educational strategy and needs. The high-class elite think highly of being multilingual including English language for their children’s education and the middle-class workers families also share the value of the importance of English. On the other hand, chef’s family focus more on the daily life in Japan and they demand more on Japanese language acquaintance. Some of them flexibly utilise Japanese public schools especially it’s night class.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

在日ネパール人は日本においてよりおおきな人口を占めてきているにもかかわらず、彼らの教育課題についての研究はまったく存在していなかった。本研究はその未開の分野を埋め、在日ネパール人の教育ニーズについてはじめてあきらかにしたものであり、今後の研究において参照されうる礎をきずいたといえる。
