Outline of Annual Research Achievements

研究代表者を中心とする北海道大学のグループは、2019年夏季に東部チュクチ海のアラスカ北部沿岸域で回収した超音波氷厚計、超音波ドップラー流速プロファイラーなどの測器の生データ（2017-19年）から海氷厚を導出する作業を実施した。これで、この海域で得られた海氷厚の時系列データは、世界的にも稀な10年分となった。
研究分担者の伊東は、2000年から実施している本海域のすぐ下流側のバロー海底峡谷での係留観測の結果から、夏季の太平洋水の昇温を明らかにした。このことは、この海域での結氷開始時期が遅くなることを示唆しており、結果的に海氷の減少に繋がり得る。
これまでにこの海域で実施した研究の論文4編（Fukamachi, Simizu, Ohshima, Eicken, Mahoney, Iwamoto, Moriya, and Nihashi, 2017, Journal of Glaciology; Ito, Ohshima, Fukamachi et al., 2019, Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans など）について、近年の太平洋側北極海で実施した研究のレビュー論文 (Kikuchi, Nishino, Fujiwara, Onodera, Yamamoto-Kawai, Mizobata, Fukamachi, and Watanabe, 2021, Polar Science) にまとめて発表した。

Reason

観測計画は予定通りに進捗しており、2017-19年に取得された超音波氷厚計などの生データからの海氷厚データの導出も完了している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は2019年に設置された係留系の回収を行い、それによって得られるデータも加えて、12年分のデータの解析を進める。
