Outline of Final Research Achievements

Countries such as Switzerland, which have continued research on improving timetables for railways and buses, have established and realized the concept of timetable making called Taktfahrplan. On the contrary, in Japan, research and actual improvement of timetables have not progressed, especially on local routes, which is a factor that slows down the growth of local public transportation.
In this research, the necessity of the timetable research in Japan is shown by clarifying the contents and the results of the research carried out by the countries that have advanced the timetable research, and the feasibility of the timetable improvement is shown.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

日本ではダイヤに関する研究は少なく、特に実際のダイヤ改良につながる研究は遅れてきた。特に地方の鉄道・バスのダイヤ作成は、熟練者によるノウハウに頼っている状況であり研究も進んでいない。国外ではスイス連邦鉄道等を中心に多くの論文があり研究と議論が進むとともに、その成果はTaktfahrplanという概念となって確立されている。本研究は著しく遅れてきた日本のダイヤ研究に対して、今後の必要性を示すとともに、ダイヤ改良の効果を明らかにすることによって実際の路線における活用につなげることを目指したものである。日本においても可能であることを示すとともに、実際に導入を目指す路線も増加するという成果も得られた。
