Outline of Annual Research Achievements

This project has:

1. Clarified the distribution of 12 important subalpine trees and shrubs in Japan including isolated populations in western Japan.
2. Assembled a DNA collection of these 12 species from across their ranges in Japan including nearly all southern edge populations.
3. Developed a ultra barcode library based on whole organelle sequencing of all species.
4. Provided the foundation for future comparative phylogeographic and conservation genetic studies in these 12 species.
