Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Main objectives of this proposed study are to examine which food values are most/least important, and to analyze in what “food values” people value more or less across three important regions of the world. Another objective is to identify appropriate approaches to mitigate hypothetical bias in the stated preference methods in economic valuation of consumer preferences for foods. The pandemic limited the scope of our studies on food values to expand. We tried our best to make a progress We planned to conduct a pilot study to test our questionnaire in selected countries in different levels of economic development. Because of difficulty in international research trips, we collaborated with local researchers to conduct a smaller scale study to examine the consumers’ willingness to pay for the premium prices on organic food and certified authentic and traditional food. We find positive values attached to these characteristics on food items in an European country. This method will be utilized in the studies which will be conducted in other countries.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

Because of the pandemic, the main surveys in the targeted regions have been delayed to be implemented. Alternative approaches have been introduced to achieve original objectives.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

International travelling is becoming feasible. We plan to catch up with our original plans to carry out our original plans.
