Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aimed to elucidate the factors affecting frailty in older patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy and to develop a preventive care model. Specifically, through qualitative research on dietary habits and a longitudinal study on the relationship between quality of life (QOL), frailty, and appetite, the study examined ways to prevent frailty in this demographic. The findings revealed that symptoms, appetite, and anxiety significantly impact the QOL of older patients with cancer. The proposed care model includes symptom palliation, counseling for anxiety about cancer progression and symptoms, and individualized support emphasizing enjoyment and pleasure through food. For older adults with cancer, food is a source of life, joy, and value. This study highlights the importance of devising strategies to minimize the negative impact of dietary changes during treatment.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
