Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究で実施している国際宇宙ステーションに搭載したCALETによる高エネルギー宇宙線の観測は、2015年10月から約8.5年に亘って極めて順調に実施されている。JAXAと連携した軌道上観測の常時モニタリングを行って観測運用の最適化を図ることにより、効率的かつ安定的な観測を実現している。その結果、主要な観測モードである高エネルギー(>10GeV)トリガーによる観測イベント数はすでに約20億に達しており、(1)1 GeV-10 TeV領域の電子、(2)10 GeV-数100 TeV領域の陽子・原子核、(3)1 GeV-1 TeV領域のガンマ線の高精度観測を実現している。
今年度の成果として、電子観測では世界で最も高いエネルギー領域での直接観測に成功し、新たに10 GeVー7.5 TeVのエネルギースペクトルの観測結果をPRLで発表している。そして、本研究の主要課題であるTeV領域での近傍加速源の存在に関する重要な解釈を行なっている。陽子・原子核観測では、40 GeV-250 TeVにおけるヘリウムのエネルギースペクトルの観測結果をPRLに発表している。そして、陽子や炭素、酸素と共通するスペクトルの硬化が、ほぼ同じエネルギー領域(~500 GeV/Z)に検出されており、その原因解明に不可欠な知見が得られている。加えて、10 TeV/Z領域には陽子と符合するスペクトルの軟化が検出されており、超新星残骸での衝撃波加速の限界を示唆する成果であると考えられている。
そのほか、10 GeV以下の電子、陽子の太陽変調の約6年間の同時観測により、太陽変調の電荷依存性を検出し、従来のForce-Field近似をこえるドリフトモデルによる解釈に成功している。今年度の最新の研究成果については、宇宙線国際会議(22件、内1件は招待講演)、日本物理学会(13件)等国内外の会議において発表している。
