Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題では、電子デバイス、情報処理端末の高性能化、超低消費電力化に革新をもたらすと期待されるスピントロニクスにおいてこれまで開拓されていないノンコリニア(非共線的)な磁気構造の持つ機能性とその利用方法を明らかにし、スピントロニクスの新たなパラダイム「ノンコリニアスピントロニクス」を開拓することを目指している。カイラルスピン構造の電流駆動や、仮想磁場の機能性素子利用などに取り組み、不揮発性メモリ、脳型情報処理の新基盤を構築する。
2019年度は主に、ノンコリニアスピントロニクスの開拓を見据え、従来パラダイムであるコリニアスピントロニクスの限界を明らかにするための実験や、ノンコリニアスピントロニクスの研究に向けた材料・素子・計測技術の構築に取り組み、コリニアスピン素子の超高速動作や確率的振る舞いに関する新たな知見を得た。
並行して、反対称交換相互作用によって誘起されるナノスケールでのノンコリニアな磁気構造である磁気スキルミオンの形成と電流駆動や、トポロジカルな物性が発現されるノンコリニア反強磁性材料の機能性素子応用の可能性を開拓する上で不可欠なエピタキシャル薄膜形成技術に取り組んだ。前者については、人工反強磁性結合した磁気スキルミオンの形成に成功し、それを用いて従来の強磁性スキルミオンの課題であったスキルミオンホール効果が抑制された電流駆動を実証した。後者については、代表的なノンコリニア反強磁性材料であるMn3Sn合金のトポロジカル物性を様々な形態で効率的に利用できる、M面配向エピタキシャル膜、C面配向エピタキシャル膜の形成技術を確立した。

Reason

当初計画した通りに、コリニアスピントロニクス材料、素子に関する研究を進めてノンコリニアスピントロニクスの開拓に向けた基盤を築くとともに、ノンコリニア反強磁性薄膜の高品質エピタキシャル薄膜の形成技術を確立し、2020年度以降のノンコリニアな磁気構造の機能性解明の土台が構築された。また、ナノスケールで形成される2次元的なノンコリニア磁気構造である磁気スキルミオンや3次元自己組織化ナノ構造ジャイロイドのノンコリニアな磁気秩序などのサブテーマも順調に進捗している。このようなことから「おおむね順調に進展している」と判断できる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2019年度に確立したノンコリニア反強磁性体の高品質エピタキシャル薄膜形成技術、およびコリニア・ノンコリニア素子に共通する材料・素子・計測技術を活用し、従来のコリニア強磁性体、コリニア反強磁性体では発現されない、ノンコリニアな磁気構造特有の機能性やその有用性を明らかにする。またノンコリニア反強磁性体を用いた研究を軸に据えながら、ネール磁壁、磁気スキルミオン、ジャイロイドなどのナノスケールのノンコリニア磁気構造の機能性素子応用に向けた研究も継続して推進し、ノンコリニアスピントロニクスの体系的な理解の構築を目指す。
