Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the previous fiscal year we have continued to conducted experiments investigating how oscillations and spiking organize the precise activity of subsets of neurons related to memory and experience. We published a manuscript detailing a state-dependent impact of transient silencing of the CA2 subfield of the hippocampus on the dynamics of network activity in the structure, featuring our newly developed machine learning based algorithm for the decoding of position based on the spikes recorded on a single tetrode. This allowed us, for the first time, to look at positional decoding in a subfield and state dependent manner. We have also published a review paper on our previous work on the differential contributions of the CA2 and CA3 subfields to sharp-wave ripples and replay. We have collected data using closed-loop optogenetics and using high-density neuropixels recording that will be analyzed in the coming fiscal year.
