Outline of Annual Research Achievements

超高水平解像度で大気エアロゾルの動態や気候影響を計算するポテンシャルを持つSCALE-SPRINTARSの開発を進めた。今年度は、一部の不自然な計算や精緻化などの問題に取り組み、観測データとの比較・検証によって、妥当なシミュレーションが可能となるレベルにまで引き上げた。SCALE-SPRINTARS/CHASERを開発したことは、研究計画を遙かに超えるものであり、すでに他研究者による利用も始まっており、発展的な研究基盤が構築できた。
全球高分解能エアロゾルシミュレーションを実施しているNICAM-Chemを用いた研究では、2モーメント雲微物理モジュールへ更新した。全球を10 km スケールの高解像度でエアロゾル・雲をシミュレーションできる世界的に稀有な数値モデルの構築を実現した。
全球大気化学モデルMIROC-CHASERでは、短寿命気候強制因子(SLCFs)による温暖化緩和策の最重要ターゲットの1つであるメタン(CH4)について、過去20年の地上や衛星からの観測データと比較し、人為起源や湿地・水田起源の影響を含め、メタンの季節性・経年変動を良く再現できていることが確認された。また、微量気体(NOx, CO, VOCs, CH4, HFCs)の排出量に関する詳細な感度実験を実施した。
エアロゾル気候モデルMIROC-SPRINTARSへ導入した降水予報型スキームを従来の降水診断型の場合の計算結果と比較したところ、衛星観測により近い雲粒子成長の特徴を再現することがわかった。また、新たに導入した霰・雹を陽に取り扱うスキームを利用して、発雷頻度を計算する応用研究を実施し、局地降水や落雷による森林火災などの予測精度向上の基盤を構築した。
本研究の成果は、気候変動に関する政府間パネル(IPCC)第7次サイクルへの貢献など、国際的に波及していくことになる。
