Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to conduct national and international research on J.F.Fletcher, but I took this as an opportunity to re-position my research in today's contemporary situation. This has revealed that the mechanism of identifying 'certain lives' as a burden on society based on their productivity and attempting to solve society's problems by eliminating their existence is common to the following phenomena. Firstly, the Nazi euthanasia policy not having been considered problematic even though it was known to the public in the USA at the time and in Japan after the war, and secondly, the film PLAN 75 (2022), which depicted a fictional Japanese society that legalised euthanasia for the elderly over 75, being well-received both in Japan and abroad and being perceived as realistic, especially in Japan.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
