| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research project, I would like to analyze Gu Hongming’s thought. He had stayed in European countries for many years and wrote some essays in German and English. His thought was very influential in western countries. But his thought has not analyzed in historical and intellectual context completely by scholars so far. In this research project, firstly I would like to analyze many Chinese intellectual’s viewpoints about Eastern and Western civilizations. Then I would like to refer to his ORIGINAL viewpoint about the Chinese and Western civilizations.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本プロジェクトでは辜鴻銘研究の一環として、迂遠ではあるが、より広い視野から辜鴻銘の東西文化論を中国近代思想研究において位置づけることを目指した。具体的には、洋務時期の「中体西用論」、梁啓超の文明史、明治日本での西洋の「学知」に対する理解、東西文化論戦、胡適の「全面的西洋化論」等の東西文明に論及した中国近代の思想家たちの議論を調査することである。その成果は拙著『清末思想研究ーー東西文明が交錯する思想空間』（汲古書院、2022年）に結実し、辜鴻銘もその中に位置づけられている。コロナによる資料調査の不便もあり、1920年代の辜鴻銘の訪日時期の関連資料については今度のさらなる史料調査を待ちたい。
