Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project aims at revisiting Nishida Kitaro's notion, actualization of personality, through its interchange with Classical Confucianism. The achievements are as follows: firstly, concepts like sincerity, the mean, knowledge, feeling and volition, which are widely used in Nishida ethics have been extensively examined. Secondly, by using of undisclosed materials which were found in 2015, a new horizon of Nishida ethics has been developed. Thirdly, regarding the interconnection between Nishida ethics and Classical Confucianism, especially its relationship with moral sentimentalism, the meaningfulness of Nishida ethics has been further uncovered.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

一、これまで注目されていたかった西田倫理学、特に古典儒教との関係を明らかにした。二、『西田幾多郎全集』の諸版のみならず、2015年より発見された「未公開資料」も使用し、西田倫理学の新地平を開こうとした。三、西田倫理学と古典授業との交差により、倫理学そのもの、特に道徳感情論という側面からみた意義も開示した。
