Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

1950年代から60年代にかけて、欧米での日本版画ブームを契機として国際的な展覧会が多く開かれるようになり、版画家たちが人気を博していった。それは日本における美術史的な展開にも大きな影響を及ぼしている。草創期の公立美術館の所蔵作品の内訳として版画が最も多く含まれていたことは、この時代にこうした美術の国際交流があったことと、その中心となった版画の重要性が増したことによって裏付けられる。
日本における1960年代から70年代にかけての美術領域の発展には、アメリカとの交流が一定の役割を担っていたと考えられる。それは、版画の隆盛だけでなく、美術マーケットの成立など、美術界の様々な動向に寄与していた。
