Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We conducted a survey of primary source on dowsing, which was popular in Germany from the end of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, focusing on the journals of dowsing research organizations of the time. Dowsing, which had been practiced since ancient times, attracted attention at the end of the 19th century because of the practical problem of water shortages in urban areas, but its purpose diversified as it became linked to growing awareness of preventive medicine and research on prehistoric heritage by Nazi Germany. Through this research, we have been able to reveal the whole picture of a case study of how border science (Grenzwissenschaft) gained support and was transformed against the backdrop of the social conditions of a certain period and region

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
