Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Research achievements in FY2019 included the acceptance of a journal article to one of the top peer-reviewed international journals in the field (Romanticism, St. Andrews University, UK). Another journal article is currently under peer-review for a top peer-reviewed international journal (The Wordsworth Circle). A third article has been accepted as an invited publication in a peer-reviewed journal (The Charles Lamb Bulletin) for publication in October 2020.
Research presentations included one invited plenary lecture on the research topic: ‘Tradition and Innovation in Wordsworth’s Narrative Poetry: Wordsworth’s Spenserian Poem’ (Wordsworth Winter School, 20 February 2020). The principle investigator also gave two panel sessions at the Japan Writers Conference (13 October 2019).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
In general, the research is proceeding on schedule. A slight delay occurred in February 2020 when the principle investigator hoped to travel to the UK for research in the British Library as well as an international conference. Due to regulations at the home university regarding travel during the academic term, the principle investigator was given permission to travel only to the academic conference. The library research was rescheduled for July 2020. However, due to the novel coronavirus, this international research travel will not be possible.
The effects of Typhoon Hagibis caused the Japan Writers Conference 2019 to be limited to a one-day conference instead of two days. Despite this setback, the principle investigator was able to complete two presentation sessions in one day.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Due to international travel restrictions during summer 2020, the principle investigator will focus on publishing papers for which research is already complete. These publications include one journal article for peer review, one book of poetry with a peer-reviewed publisher, and one translation.
The principle investigator has successfully applied for sabbatical during 2021-2022. The principle investigator has applied to three international visiting fellowships, and been accepted to one. Results from two applications are still pending.
Sabbatical research plans include writing an academic monograph. Because the peer-review process can take one year, the principle investigator is already preparing applications to UK and Canadian publishers for two possible monographs.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The principle investigator was unable to receive permission for an international library research trip in February-March 2020, based on the research plan. This amount will be used in FY2020 if international travel is possible. Otherwise, the amount will be used to purchase books that are not available in the principle investigator's home university library. Some of the amount may also be used for domestic academic conference travel within Japan.
