Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The work is now progressing more smoothly after delays caused by Covid. I have completed the conference presentations and published the papers that I intended and am involved in an editing project closely related to the kakenhi project. I am also on the thesis committee for a PhD related to the topic. However, I will need more time if I am to publish a book related to the work.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2024, I will attend the Fourth Global Conversations conference in Nagano, at Nagano University (May 31st - June 3rd) where I will give a paper on the relationship between nature and spirituality in the work of Ted Hughes with reference to Japanese themes. In July, I will attend the 'Dark Durrell' International Lawrence Durrell Society conference in Athens at the Kapodistrian University of Athens, where I will give a paper on 'dark spirituality' in Durrell with relation to Eastern themes. In September this year, I will give a presentation at the International Iris Murdoch Society at Chichester University on intertextuality in The Book and the Brotherhood, including reference to Japanese themes. I also intend to give a paper on Iris Murdoch at the forthcoming Iris Murdoch Society of Japan in meeting in Uji or Kyoto this November (topic and location to be confirmed). I will revise these papers for publication.I will be continuing to work on editing the volume Iris Murdoch and the East with my co-editor Rob Hardy and intend to approach Palgrave Macmillan with a proposal for a book on Iris Murdoch.

Causes of Carryover |
There is some amount to be used in the next fiscal year 2024 because I could not travel abroad for the research and the conference during the period of COVID. I plan to use it for a part of the research travel expense in 2024.
