Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study is to visit the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in Fukushima Prefecture and conduct a survey to collect natural dialect discourse, as well as to consider methodologies for supporting the affected areas through dialect research and to help build a 'practical dialectology'. In order to preserve and pass on the Soso dialect, which is feared to have become a crisis dialect, we collected dialect discourse materials from almost all of the affected municipalities in Fukushima prefecture, and conducted a comprehensive description and analysis of the dialects concerned. At the same time, we have been studying the ideal of 'support for disaster victims through dialect research' and 'regional reconstruction through dialects' in cooperation with the affected municipalities.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
