Outline of Final Research Achievements

I conducted a descriptive study of words and usage in ancient records and ancient documents on the use of regions in the late Muromachi and early Edo periods, and I discovered the following findings:
① I researched 『上井覚兼日記』, a commander of the Shimazu family in the late Muromachi period, and 『梅津政景日記』, a magistrate of the Akita Domain in the early Edo period. I compared them against 『言経卿記』, a court noble in Kyoto from the late Muromachi period to the Edo period, and I found differences.
② I researched regionally used old documents from the 16th century to the first half of the 17th century, including 『相良家文書』『大友史料』 and 『島津家文書』from Kyushu,『伊達家文書』from Tohoku,『上杉家文書』from Echigo, and 戦国遺文『後北条氏編』from the Kanto region. I compared these documents against 『毛利家文書』from Chugoku and 『阿蘇文書』from Kyushu, and I discovered expressions and words used in ancient records that reflect distinctive characteristics from the regions.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

①室町後期の鹿児島の『上井覚兼日記』と江戸初期、秋田の『梅津政景日記』を調査し、室町後期～江戸初期の京都公家の『言経卿記』と比較して、その差異を見いだした。②16～17世紀前半の地方成立古文書の九州の『相良家文書』『大友史料』『島津家文書』や東北『伊達家文書』、越後『上杉家文書』、関東の戦国遺文『後北条氏編』等を調査し、中国『毛利家文書』や九州『阿蘇文書』等と比較し、地域に特徴的な表現や記録語を見いだした。
以上の点から、日本語学分野で地域に特徴的な表現や記録語が明らかになり、古記録・古文書の記録語・記録語法の研究が進展した。また、日本語辞書の記述の詳細化と日本史での文書等の読解の助けになる。
