Visually, the Braille magazine "Mutsuboshi no Hikari" owned by the University of Tsukuba School for the Visually Impaired, which is a valuable modern Japanese Braille material that is a major source of the history of education for the visually impaired in modern Japan, is used as a central material. In order to convert the irregularities of the Braille characters into image data, we created a catalog, checked the status of the materials, selected a company with specialized technology, and created a catalog of images from the 91st issue of "Mutsuboshi no Hikari" onwards, mainly from the Meiji period and Some of the issues from the Taisho and Showa periods were photographed and preserved in electronic media, and the notation of kanji sounds and foreign words such as educational and academic terms found in Braille magazines, especially the status of combined sounds, and lectures published. We examined the writing style, vocabulary, usage, and tone characteristics of the text.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
研究成果の学術的意義は近代点字資料が視覚障害者教育史の貴重な資料であると同時に歴史的仮名遣いによる漢字仮名混じり表記と異なり６点点字によってほぼ表音式で表記されているため、近代共通語成立期における日本語を音韻・語彙・語法・表記・方言にわたって分析できる資料であることを指摘したことである。さらに触読文字であるため点字の摩滅の恐れがあり、また紙の劣化の恐れもある筑波大学附属視覚特別支援学校所蔵の点字雑誌『むつぼしのひかり』を目視によって点字の凹凸が確認できる画像データのための写真撮影を91号以降の主として明治期及び一部大正・昭和期について行い電子媒体による保存処置を講じたところに社会的意義がある。
