Outline of Final Research Achievements

We viewed the problem of misuse by native Japanese speakers as a cutting-edge change in the Japanese language. We extracted many specific examples of cutting-edge changes in modern Japanese and analyzed their trends. We investigated open corpora, Internet discourse, and written language in publications. We clarified the actual usage of ``retasu words '' ``rereru words'' and ``raire words'' which are further changes from ``ra-nuki words.'' We also investigated morphological changes that have not been mentioned before, such as ``adjectives (itasu words),'' and clarified their usage.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究によって、日本語母語話者の誤用問題と、現代日本語の先端的な動向の問題とを日本語の通時論として結びつけることが可能となり、日本語学にあらたな研究分野を開拓するという学術的意義を得ることができた。「ら抜き言葉」はこれまで多くの日本語学研究者によって“五段活用動詞から派生した可能動詞が他の活用の動詞に拡大したもので可能表現に特化した日本語の合理的な変化である”として評価されていた感があるが、本研究では、「ら抜き言葉」は日本語の動詞・助動詞がエ段型の活用に同化されていく現象のごく一部でしかなく、母語話者の御用問題が日本語文法の根底的変化の証左であることを明らかにしたという点で社会的意義がある。
