Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, life-story interviews were conducted on an ongoing basis with Sakhalin residency Japanese who have returned permanently to Japan and their families. It was then analysed and discussed from the perspective of plurilingualism life experiences. The research revealed that in order to lead a fulfilling life in Japanese society, it is necessary not only to adapt to society and learn Japanese, but also to live together with others, helping and supporting each other, in other words, to have the ability to be plurilingual and pluricultural as a value. From the perspective of mediation among speakers of plurilingualism , it was also possible to show the importance of building relationships with the local community and the importance of places for social participation that capitalise on plurilingualism and pluriculturalism.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
