Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Several Empatica E4 units were purchased and the primary metrics used in the assessment of arousal have been normalized in relation to other such wearable technologies. Following this, an external programmer was sourced in order to create an experiment python script for the processing of E4 data under pre-test, on-test and post-test experimental conditions. In addition, an online measure of L2 communication anxiety has been translated and placed online ready for data collection.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
All stated goals within the original application have been met and the project is progressing smoothly.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Physiological data will be collected from students using the Empatica E4 following the experimental procedures outlined. This data will be used in relation to the self-reported measures of L2 communication anxiety. Performance data will be collected and analyzed in relation to the impact of physiological arousal on a variety of English language related tasks.

Causes of Carryover |
There was a significant delay experienced in purchasing the Empatica E4 units from a local supplier. In addition, travel and conference attendance was restricted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
