Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This research has achieved its aim of helping to raise awareness of the qualities of good scientific writing and presentations by encouraging critical evaluation of authentic research through peer-review practices. Research has progressed a little slower than expected due to the pandemic, but it is on target with the proposed timeline. In 9/2021 the second cycle of the program had to be moved from face-to-face meetings to online platforms (Moodle and Zoom). Methodologically, peer-review exchanges of scientific posters and papers were examined using content analysis to identify and categorize meaningful exchanges.Data were collected through audio recordings and forum posts. Audio recordings have been transcribed. Data analysis indicated students’ capacity to give and receive critical feedback on various aspects of their learning without specific teacher guidance or training. The researchers presented initial findings at two conferences (JALT2020 and EUROCALL2020). Cycle 3 of the program will be implemented between April to July 2021. The researchers will present their findings on the completed program in 8/2021 at the AILA2021 conference. Two papers have been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Data analysis of transcribed recordings and forum posts are in progress and will be completed in the final year of the project The researchers will present at the AILA2021 conference in 8/2021. In FY2021-2022, the researchers will continue to analyse data and complete one more cycle of the program.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Funds have been spent as planned. An iPad and computer were purchased to help facilitate the online exchanges and the researchers paid for conferences. Funds were carried over yet again to pay for the 6-day AILA international conference which has been postponed until 8/2021.In FY2021-2022, software and subscriptions will be paid for to complete the qualitative data analysis.
