Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research is to find out why Japanese students cannot acquire English language quickly although they have studied it for a long period of time. The main reason revealed was that students did not have enough experiences of read books positively. The new method of learning English will be introduced as a textbook: utilizing “Training Method of Interpreting and Translating”. In order to do interpreting whether it would be simultaneous or consecutive, you need to have information and knowledge of the theme of the speech you will be interpreting and must be well prepared. At the same time, you need to be able to imagine as a picture the stage or situation which the speaker is trying to describe in words. Whether interpreting or translating, you need to convert the meaning from original language to the target language. This process not only improves the language proficiency but also accelerates the speed of understanding of the context of the speech.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、効率の良い効果的英語習得法は、英語を勉強するだけでなく、母語である日本語の力を並行してつける事であると結論付けた。幼少期に絵本の読み聞かせをしてもらったり、自分で自由に読書をする経験が、英語の習得におおいにつながる事が分かった。新井紀子氏の『教科書が読めない子どもたち』(東洋経済store)に共通する現象で、今の学生たちは、英語の学習の以前に日本語の理解力に大いに問題が見受けられる。本研究成果として作成する教材は、今まで教材として捉えられていなかった日本語力(母語)と英語力の相関性を絡めた教材となる。これは、今後の英語教育に大いに役立つものとなる事を信じている。
