Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the planned research was changed significantly. We had planned to gather data for the main study during 2020-21, but were unable to do so. Instead we concentrated on analyzing the data gathered in 2019-20 and writing a paper to publish our initial findings. We used the Rasch model for measurement to analyze the data and found that the questionnaires administered were not functioning optimally. We also conducted regression analyses to determine the relationship between the two measures of motivation used and the students' scores on the TOEIC listening and reading test. Our initial findings suggest that students are not motivated by grades or external rewards. The paper is currently under review at a well known international journal.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to gather the questionnaire data and interview data from our students. Although we have been able to develop the quesitonnaire, we were unable to administer it.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Our plan for 2021-22 is to administer the revised questionnaire and also to attempt to interview students regarding their motivational change. At present we are setting up the questionnaire to be administered online.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The next year we will need to upload the questionnaire and also will need money to buy recording devices for conducting interviews. Depending on the COVID-19 pandemic situation, we also intend to present our findings at both domestic and international conferences.
