Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This year we were able to analyze the data from our questionnaire and then revise the items. We then created a new version of the questionnaire online and administered it to approximately 600 students. We then began to analyze the new data. We were also able to publish a paper with the results of our initial study in a high level international peer-reviewed journal. Leeming, P. and Harris, J. (2022), Measuring Foreign Language Students’ Self-Determination: A Rasch Validation Study. Language Learning. https://doi.org/10.1111/lang.12496

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
At present we are working on gathering data for the main part of our planned study. Based on the results of our second administration of the quesitonnaire in the academic year 2021-2022, we made further revisions to the items and have created a new version which we have given to first year students in our department. Approximately 500 students completed the questionnaire and we are now in the process of analyzing the data.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Our plans for the research project are to gather motivational data on two more occasions this academic year (in September and January). We then plan to analyze changes in motivation during the year and relate these to student performance on proficiency tests. We also plan to present our findings at conferences if we are able to travel.
|
Causes of Carryover |
We will spend money on questionnaires and also plan to spend money on traveling to conferences to present our research.
