Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Over this first year of the project, I have investigated the variance in fluencies amongst a population of first language Japanese second language learners of English. The investigation includes a longitudinal study, with the same group, over two points at the beginning and end of a semester, using three productive vocabulary tasks (Lex30 (Meara and Fitzpatrick, 2000); G_Lex (Fitzpatrick and Clenton, 2017); and, the Productive Vocabulary Levels Test (Nation and Laufer 1999), and the IELTS speaking test. Preliminary findings appear to indicate that fluency task influences fluency, and that vocabulary use varies according to fluency task.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I am in the process of evaluating the current data set and preparing papers for presentation and publication
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I am currently planning to investigate participants of different proficiency in order to determine the extent to which the findings from this study can be extended to different learner population.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The project is very much ongoing. Financing continues to be needed for the processing of data, which includes expenses for training RAs, paying RAs, and related expenses for technology related costs. Pending Coronavirus - I remain hopeful that I can use expenses as originally planned (the work was accepted at 3 major international conference venues this year (EuroSLA, World Congress, and AlTAANZ)
