Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The work in progress provided the foundation for two international conference presentations: Investigating vocabulary use in fluency: exploring potential task, spoken output, and skill influences., Research Days in Education (RDE) 2021 The University of French Polynesia, 2021, Without Invitation, English Investigating whether speaking tasks influence second language vocabulary and fluency, Jon Clenton & Dion Clingwall, LTRC/ALTAANZ 2020, With Invitation, English. On the basis of this work, I am currently working on a paper that explored fluency in terms of multi-word units.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I'm continuing data collection with a new group of second language learners and, as well as building on the project work (investigating fluency and vocabulary and the extent to which task influences both), and as well as working on papers for international journal publication, I am exploring multi-word units and the extent to which fluency relates to their usage.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
the research is proceeding well; the research field is broadening to the extent that additional aspects of investigation cover MWU as well as Formulaic sequences, I am investing both of these topics. Over the course of 2021 I am measuring: Multi-Word Units, Formulaic Sequences and the relationship with task; I am currently measuring these aspects of knowledge with a new group of participants (numbering 30-60). Over the course of this academic year this work will be presented at the World Congress conference in the Netherlands. Depending on the Covid situation, I would hope to physically attend this and other international conferences.
|
Causes of Carryover |
the research is ongoing, I will need funds for research assistants, data processing, and for potential meetings with international collaborators. I am engaged in data collection with a new group of (approximately 30-60) participants. My hope is to provide a small remuneration for participation. I have had a paper accepted at the World Congress conference in the Netherlands in August 2021, depending on the covid situation, my hope is to attend this conference in person.
