Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study classified kilns in East Asia and elucidated the genealogy of kiln technology. It highlighted that the kilns in Korea, previously thought to have developed internally, adopted the long-body kiln design from southern China after initially accepting the flat-kiln from northern China. This adoption resulted in the emergence of regional differences. Additionally, the study found that the kilns in Japan can be traced back to the Gaya kilns. Furthermore, examining the coexistence of large-scale kiln groups, small-scale kilns, and villages producing open-fired earthenware in Korea demonstrated a high likelihood that workers from large-scale kiln groups were brought to the Sue-mura kilns managed by the central regime in Japan. Conversely, groups of workers operating small-scale kilns within villages were likely employed in local kilns. The latest research results from each country, including these findings, have been compiled and published in a book.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
各地域(国)で研究されていたために全体像の見えにくかった窯について、先学の研究を基礎に分類し系譜を明確にしたことは、漢の領域拡大とともに拡散する技術系譜の解明において重要な意義がある。また、古墳時代の窯技術が伽耶に由来し、中央政権と地方政体とで受け入れた渡来集団が異なることは、伽耶からの技術者渡来の明確化とともに、地方が一定の自立性を保って渡来技術を受容しえたと理解でき、古墳社会の理解に貢献しうる。また、東アジアおよび北アジアの窯技術と政体に関する研究成果の英語書籍刊行は初めてであり、窯研究や東アジアの古代に関する国際的研究の発展に寄与しうる大きな成果といえる。
