Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This year I have continued to acquire autograph letters related to nineteenth century sinologist. I have acquired several letters written by the Stanislas Julien's disciple Marie-Jean-Leon Marquis d'Hervey de Saint-Denis and Julius Klaproth. I have also acquired the status of L'Ecole des langues orientales written by Louis-Mathieu Langles. I am currently working on a manuscript presenting these documents. It will include a full transcription of the document, their annotation and presentation. I have also continued working on the database related to Stanislas Julien's letters. The database currently includes 184 entries. I am also working on publishing a volume related to Stanislas Julien's correspondance that will include not only Julien's letters but also an analysis of his network.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
Since the beginning, this project has been greatly impacted by the current Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic and Japan travel restrictions, I have not been able to leave Japan to do archives work in European libraries. I have relied mainly on digital copies but not all European libraries allowed digital reproduction. It also took me a long time to order and receive digital copies of Stanislas Julien's from European libraries.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I am currently preparing two publications. The first publication is related to autograph letters written by nineteenth century sinologists. The publication will include a full transcription of the letters, an annotation of the letters, and a presentation of the sinologist who wrote them. The publication will both in French and Japanese. The second publication is related to the Stanislas Julien's correspondance. The volume will include a full transcription and annotation of the letters, and an analysis of Julien's network.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic I have not been able to finish my research in 3 years, and I need therefore another year to finish it.
