Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of media information bias in a market where competition between old and new media has intensified, and to obtain implications for desirable competition policy. The following four specific results were achieved. (1) We analyzed the relationship between information uncertainty and the level of attention of viewers, and showed that the use of TV viewer data and the framework of media economics are promising. (2) The use of TVer, which provides broadcast programs via the Internet, was examined closely. (3) Comparative institutional analysis of the relationship between the media and the government in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan showed that market competition pressure is rising from the traditional relationship building with the government. (4) We examined public broadcasting reforms in Europe and proposed an institutional design for the entire video media market.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
メディアバイアスの分析には新聞と政治行動との分析が多く利用されてきたが、独自に発展してきたスポーツ経済学の分野でも、テレビ視聴者市場データ利用が有望で分析対象となりうる可能性を提示した点は、研究の新しい方向性を提示しており意義がある。またアジアのメディア動向に関する情報は、欧州のメディア研究者が主体となって出版されたハンドブックに掲載されており、比較を行う上での重要な情報となっている。公共放送改革も政府でまさに現在検討されており、現状の問題点と望ましい規制やガイドライン作成の在り方に関する基礎的資料を提供している点で意義があると言える。
